Project Overview
CAMRAIL AGV is an industrial IoT and web platform designed for real-time tracking and monitoring of field personnel across the CAMRAIL railway network (Cameroon). Built for over 80 Track Watchmen (AGV) conducting daily foot patrols along railway tracks, the system provides vital oversight, work shift verification, and safety alert dispatching.
Business Challenges & Key Features
- Field Patrol Oversight: Real-time visibility on patrol completion, starting/ending shift timestamps, and track coverage.
- Offline-First Data Storage: Automatic local GPS telemetry buffering when crossing network dead zones, with rapid catch-up sync (< 5 minutes) upon network recovery.
- Real-time Emergency & Geofence Alerts: Instant notification for geofence breaches, extended immobility, low battery levels, or SOS distress calls.
- Privacy & Shift Compliance: Device tracking automatically limits data collection strictly to official shift hours (automatic shutdown by 10:00 PM).
Technical Architecture
- Traccar Server & Netty Pipeline: High-throughput asynchronous Java core processing multi-protocol GPS device streams over TCP/UDP/HTTP.
- REST & WebSockets API (Embedded Jetty): Full real-time bi-directional pipeline pushing live coordinate streams and emergency alerts to supervisory dashboards.
- PostgreSQL & TimescaleDB: Optimized spatio-temporal database schema with Liquibase migration management.
- React & Material-UI Frontend: Modern mapping interface with interactive route playback, stop duration analytics, and granular role-based access control.
